How I Got Involved in Letterpress
Printing: In the late 1980’s, I represented a divorce client who ran short of legal fees. He had a 5 x 8 Kelsey, some
ratty type, and a 2/3rd cabinet made of boxwood. I took this stuff, gave him a $500 credit on his fees. That was my start.
Presses & Equipment: At this writing, I have a Model 0 Poco Proof Press equipped with a tympan and frisket, and a Model 1 Poco Proof Press (tympan and frisket under construction). I have 18-pt and 24-pt hand moulds and various type-making equipment. I hand cast type and ornaments for my own enjoyment.
Work History: Practiced law for 33-years, and semi-retired on December 31,
2005. I was a reporter for The Associated Press (AP) in the late 1960s.
Education: Juris Doctorate, Suffolk University
Law School, 1973. Admitted to practice in federal and Massachusetts courts; BA University of Massachusetts, 1968.
