How I Got Involved in Letterpress Printing: I had a design
studio and wanted to be able to print my designs, but not utilize laser or ink jet. So, I did my research and bought a Craftsman 6
by 10 tabletop from John Barrett of Letterpress Things in Chicopee, MA. He taught me how to print right there and then. I set up the
press in our tiny apartment and went to work. After a lot of trial and error, came up with my first set of personal stationery that
I printed myself. Once I saw my name in print, I was instantly hooked. Wanting to print in a larger format, I furthered my research
and bought a Model 0 Poco Press six months later. I hand inked for three years, doing 3 color 100-500 piece jobs for clients using
photopolymer plates and a Boxcar Base. I am used to kerning and tracking on the Mac and realized early on that I loved metal type
but the setting and distributing was cost prohibitive. When I felt I maxed out the capabilities of that press, I sold it and bought
my first SP-15. But I had to wait until I moved from our tiny apartment in Hoboken, NJ before I could buy such a press as the front
door of a first floor brownstone apt. is very prohibitive to moving a 705 pound press in. So my first SP-15 was in July of 2005, after
we moved to Glen Rock. The second SP-15 came a month later. Between the Model 0 and the first SP-15, I also acquired a Golding Official
9 by 12? I'm not sure what size. The two SP-15's changed our business, we were able to produce faster and invitations and jobs of
a fine quality. In February 2006, we acquired our first 10 by 15 Windmill, born in the late 60's.
