Born 1962 -Louis Charles - Henry Mohr, Comte du Rhey 17-short Charles, in Germany, raised in Lausanne (Switzerland -french part). Studied to become a Librarian , Jesuit - worked at the Bibliotheca Apostolica Vaticana, nearly finished a PhD in comparitive Religious Studies; started an Interest as a Hand bookbinder, worked and learned in Germany, side tracked to Type and Printing - so i basically wandered Europe for about 12 years working here and there , studying here and there.

 

Apprenticed with Master Craftsman in Europe, Asia, learnt Handpaper making, washi, Typesetting by hand, on Linotype and Intertype, Monotype, printing on the Handpress, Heidelberg Cylinders and windmills, Johanisberger Cylinders, Industria Bookbinding and hand bookbinding in France, Spain, Germany and England, etching and printmaking in France, engraving in copper in Germany.

 

Left the Fold over politics rather than faith, my faith is intact. Aquired a Master degree as a Handbookbinder in Germany, as a Typesetter and Letterpress printer in switzerland, as a paper marbler in France, as a Librarian at the University of Heidelberg and the Vaticana, a PhD in Bookhistory in Rom and Mainz.

 

Established a shop in Germany with Monotype, a handpress, a handbindery, marbled paper, Lithography (stone) and etching.) Found my way to Los Angeles, live and work now here in Los Angeles, have a shop with a full handbindery. a Handpress (Amos dell"Orto Albion from1862, which was commissioned to be build by the Opera in Milan to Print the Posters for the Performances.), a challeneg Mitget handpress, a Vandercook sp20, a Etching press, a Roller grinder to make my own inks and a Polymerplate maker (24 x30), a collection of mostly cast iron machinery for the Binding of books.
