I was bitten by letterpress printing as a lad of fourteen.
My folks gave me a 3x5 Kelsey and a book on how to use it. My first experience was an amateur journal printed on the press. I still
have a copy, and now, over seventy years later I am still enjoying the craft. Active in both amateur journalism groups and a twenty
two year member of APA (#515). I am constantly setting type and enjoying every minute of it.
I am the proud owner of an
Albion handpress which gets occasional attention, but my bulk of jobs are done on an ancient Oldstyle 8x12 Gordon with both a foot
treadle and a small motor. Also have a Pilot which gets rare use.
Type holdings range from Caslon, Californian to several type
faces bought years ago at Stempel in Frankfurt, Germany. My favorite typeface is Bruce Rogers Centaur which I hold from eight to forty-eight.
This
is a grand hobby and it has served me well.
