I was born in Prague in 1946, emigrated to Australia when
I was 4 years old.
Completed an apprenticeship as an Automotive Engineer, and am now retired.
Discovered printing from hand
cut rubber stamps while travelling to Kathmandu after the Vietnam War. On my return journey home, I was shown metal type in Auckland
New Zealand. Settling in Queensland Australia, I found type hard to come by and set about casting my own type. I purchased 3 C4 Intertype
linecasters, a Ludlow and 5 Monotypes. The collection continued to grow, and I ended up with 300 cases of type, 2 Stop cylinder presses,
a Heidelberg Windmill 1925, and an assortment of hand fed presses. I developed a small machine shop and woodwork shop to become self
sufficient.
Now, at the age of 57 I am trying to downsize only to find that the collection is unwanted.
